Term 3 Week 3 - Thursday 7 August 2025
Principal Message
Gospel Reading: Luke 12: 32-48
Fear not, little flock, for it hath pleased your Father to give you a kingdom. Sell what you possess and give alms. Make to yourselves bags which grow not old, a treasure in heaven which faileth not: where no thief approacheth, nor moth corrupteth. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. Let your loins be girt, and lamps burning in your hands. And you yourselves like to men who wait for their lord, when he shall return from the wedding; that when he cometh and knocketh, they may open to him immediately.
Blessed are those servants, whom the Lord when he cometh, shall find watching. Amen I say to you, that he will gird himself, and make them sit down to meat, and passing will minister unto them. And if he shall come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find them so, blessed are those servants. But this know ye, that if the householder did know at what hour the thief would come, he would surely watch, and would not suffer his house to be broken open. Be you then also ready: for at what hour you think not, the Son of man will come. And Peter said to him: Lord, dost thou speak this parable to us, or likewise to all?
And the Lord said: Who (thinkest thou) is the faithful and wise steward, whom his lord setteth over his family, to give them their measure of wheat in due season? Blessed is that servant, whom when his lord shall come, he shall find so doing. Verily I say to you, he will set him over all that he possesseth. But if that servant shall say in his heart: My lord is long a coming; and shall begin to strike the menservants and maidservants, and to eat and to drink and be drunk: The lord of that servant will come in the day that he hopeth not, and at the hour that he knoweth not, and shall separate him, and shall appoint him his portion with unbelievers. And that servant who knew the will of his lord, and prepared not himself, and did not according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. But he that knew not, and did things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. And unto whomsoever much is given, of him much shall be required: and to whom they have committed much, of him they will demand the more.
School Hats
St Jude’s has been a Sunsmart accredited school for over twenty years. We use information from both the Cancer Council and the Sunsmart app to guide our responsible sun practices. Generally, their recommendation is that when the UV rating is 3 or above, students should be wearing hats. Over the past few weeks, there have been stages throughout each day where it has reached a 3. Today, that period is 11:20 – 12:40. As we get closer to summer, this period will increase. We all know that the majority of students respond better to consistency and predictability. As such, we don’t chop and change throughout the day, we have no hats in June and July, with hats on during all other months. Like most things, there is a great deal of conflicting research in relation to the amount of sun needed for vitamin D. Our students don’t have to wear hats before school, which gives us this balance. The information below is from the Cancer council website:
How much sun do we need for healthy bones?
The best source of vitamin D is UVB radiation from the sun. UV radiation levels vary depending on location, time of year, time of day, cloud coverage and the environment. For most people, adequate vitamin D levels are reached through regular incidental exposure to the sun. When the UV Index is 3 or above (such as during summer), most people maintain adequate vitamin D levels just by spending a few minutes outdoors on most days of the week.
In late autumn and winter in some southern parts of Australia, when the UV Index falls below 3, spend time outdoors in the middle of the day with some skin uncovered. Being physically active (e.g. gardening or going for a brisk walk) also helps boost vitamin D levels.
Kinder 100 Days
I had to take a double look yesterday morning as there were all these really old looking people lined up where our Kindergarten classes were supposed to be. Fortunately, we called Mirrinjani and they came and collected them. Actually, thank you to our parents and Kinder Teachers who made a special effort with the 100 days celebration. There was a great deal of grey hair, walking sticks and old people clothes. I was keen to join them for their afternoon nap.
Shelter Shade over the Monkey Bars
As you would be aware, we are looking at covering this play space. We have had a couple of companies visit and they are currently in the process of developing quotes, which we will then work with CE and act upon asap. I will keep you informed as this progresses.
Camp Australia
I have been informed by our before and after school provider, that there are spaces in both the morning and afternoon programs on each day. Please check out their website or call the school for contact details.
Students departing St Jude’s at the end of the year
We currently have waiting lists in several year levels. If your child is leaving St Jude’s at the end of 2025, can I ask that you please let the office know asap by clicking here and completing the online form. This will assist in giving another family an opportunity to join our wonderful community.

Community Council
Community Council Meeting
We warmly invite all parents and carers to join us tonight at 6:00pm for our Community Council Meeting, taking place in the school library or online.
We’ll be discussing exciting upcoming events, including planning for the 2026 School Fete and the special celebrations for our 50th Anniversary. Your input and ideas are incredibly valuable, and this is a great opportunity to get involved and help shape these important milestones for our school community.
Whether you can attend in person or prefer to join online, we’d love to see you there!
Father’s Day Stall
We’re also seeking volunteers to help run our Father’s Day Stall on Thursday 4 September from 9:00am to 11:00am. It’s a fun and rewarding way to be involved and help students choose a special gift.
If you’re available to lend a hand, please send us an email.
Thank you again for being such a supportive school community!
Many thanks,
Gemma Cabot
