Term 3 Week 2 - Friday 1 August 2025
Principal Message
Luke 12: 13-21
And one of the multitude said to him: Master, speak to my brother that he divide the inheritance with me.
But he said to him: Man, who hath appointed me judge, or divider, over you?
And he said to them: Take heed and beware of all covetousness; for a man’s life doth not consist in the abundance of things which he possesseth.
And he spoke a similitude to them, saying: The land of a certain rich man brought forth plenty of fruits.
And he thought within himself, saying: What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits?
And he said: This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and will build greater; and into them will I gather all things that are grown to me, and my goods.
And I will say to my soul: Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years take thy rest; eat, drink, make good cheer.
But God said to him: Thou fool, this night do they require thy soul of thee: and whose shall those things be which thou hast provided?
So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich towards God.
Principal Community Council Report Term 3, Week 3, 2025.
Sensory Garden
The initial development of our new sensory garden is well underway, with exciting progress being made to create a calm and engaging space for students to explore and enjoy.
Life Education
Kindergarten students were recently treated to a visit from the Life Ed Van, where they participated in fun, interactive learning focused on health and wellbeing.
Girls AFL
A huge congratulations to our girls AFL team, who represented our school with pride and determination at the NSW Championships in Sydney. Their fantastic effort was matched by the dedication of their coaches, Pete Lilley and Andrew Brown — thank you both for your commitment and support. Thank you also to all parents who were able to travel and support the girls.
Mathematics Enrichment
We have recently reviewed data in relation to Mathematics assessments over the 2024 and 2025 period.
As part of our ongoing efforts to further enhance learning experiences, we have been able to free up some staffing and would like to allocate this resource towards continuing to develop and expand student mathematical understanding. Based on the data we’ve reviewed across all students in Years 1 to 6, we have identified small groups of students who would benefit from targeted enrichment sessions. Some of these groups will involve students from the same year level, while others will be a mix of year levels, offering a broader collaborative learning environment. Click here for more details.
NAPLAN Results
We recently distributed the NAPLAN results to parents of students in Years 3 and 5. NAPLAN is a national assessment which enables the Australian government to get a snapshot of student levels of achievement in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 in relation to literacy and numeracy. Each student cohort is different and within each cohort, each individual student has different strengths and areas for support. Our aim is always to add value to every learning experience. Within the NAPLAN data, we can get point in time information about each cohort. However, the most valuable data comes when we compare each individuals development from Year 3 to Year 5 and as apparent I would also look at Year 7 and 9 as my children progressed. Looking at this data gives us another example of the many things that we are doing which are making a difference in Literacy and Numeracy. When we add all the other data/information we continue to modify and adapt our teaching.

CONGRATULATIONS to Annie W in Year 5, who represented St Jude's at the ACT Rostrum quarter final at Farrer Primary School on Wednesday evening. Annie was one of 8 speakers and drew the hard task of being the final speaker. Annie, and her mum and dad, sat patiently through the other speakers before presenting a poised and entertaining 3 minute speech on 'Spiders'. Annie's speech was very well received by the audience and judges. After deliberation and careful consideration, Annie was awarded joint winner and will progress to the next level of the Rostrum competition. Annie will now compete in the Semi finals to be held in August.
Congratulations Annie, St Jude's is very proud of you!

RE News
Last week our captains attended the NAIDOC Mass at St Christopher's Cathedral along with representatives from schools across the diocese. It was a lovely mass, and we congratulate all the award recipients on significant their achievements.

NAIDOC Posters

We are continuing our whole school focus on the year of Hope. Hope can be difficult for children to understand so we are looking at how we make hope visible.
Hope is knowing that everything will be ok because God loves us. Kinder have talked about how having hope gives us a happy heart and we can share that with others. Saying 'it will be ok' can make a difference to someone who is feeling upset, or trying again when we first don't get something right the first time. In kinder we know that things can always get better!
Each year group has been working on statements of hope that they can focus on for the term. What does hope look like for you?

Year 5/6 Boys Futsal Day
Last Friday Mrs Sallecchia and Mrs Henderson had the pleasure of taking 2 St Jude's teams to the Southside Year 5/6 Futsal Day at the Canberra Futsal Centre at Fadden. Despite not many wins, the boys had plenty of grins. The boy's behaviour and sportsmanship were exemplary, and a lot of fun was had by all. Thanks to parents who provided transport to and from Fadden and for coming along to support the boys.

ACT School Sport
Next week Sadie S, Matilda L, Maddy G, Lexie B and Zara B will represent the ACT at the School Sport Australia 12&U Australian Football Championship in Maroochydore. We wish the girls the very best of luck and hope that this is a wonderful experience for them. We are very proud of the girls on their selection and look forward to hearing all about it on their return to school.

St Jude's Girls AFL Team
Congratulations to Eve L, Lexie B, Zara B, Cleo E, Evie R, Charlotte E, Amelia K, Abby M, Hallie O, Edith S, Sadie S, Izzy S, Emma S, Matilda L and Ashley T who represented the ACT at the Paul Kelly State Cup Final in Sydney on Wednesday. This was a once in a lifetime experience for the team who came across some well drilled teams. The girls started the day well with a win against St Augustine's Coffs Harbour 9-2. Next they played St Joseph's Merewether and lost 11-0. The third game was against Albury Public School where they were narrowly defeated 12-8. The final game was against Blackwell Public School going down 14-0 despite throwing any energy left at the game. Some very excited and tired girls arrived at school with lots of stories to tell!
St Jude's would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Peter Lilley and Andrew Brown for coaching and managing the girls across 3 different competition days as well as training sessions. Your efforts were huge and very much appreciated. Also a very big thank you to Mrs Stincic for being the St Jude's supervising teacher in Sydney, again a huge effort. And last but definitely not least a massive thank you to all parents for supporting the girls on this journey and providing transport for the girls to Sydney and back at last minute. The St Jude's village is very strong.
