Year of St Paul
This year has been declared the year of St Paul in the Catholic Church. The year of St Paul is an opportunity to reflect more deeply on the message this great saint has left on the Church through his writings and work in spreading the faith. Paul was known as Saul and was a fierce persecutor of the faith. Saul lost his sight on the road to Damascus. He remained blind for three days. His sight was restored by Ananias who baptised Saul. Saul spent the rest of his life preaching the message of Jesus.
We cannot all have a conversion as dramatic as Saul’s but as Christians we are called to spread Christ’s message of love for one another.

House Naming Competition
We are opening a competition to name our St Jude’s Sports Houses. The Sports Houses are currently Red, Gold, Green and Blue. Some suggestions may include naming the Houses after famous sports stars, suburbs in the area or famous people in the ACT. The competition will be open until the end of the term. The winner will be announced next term by a committee formed by staff, parents and children.
Sacramental Dates
In term 3, we will begin preparation for those children in Year 6 receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation.
- Thursday 30th July - Parent Information Night, St John Vianney’s School Hall, 7pm
- Sunday 2nd August - Commitment Mass, 8:30am St Jude’s Church
- Friday 18th September - Retreat Day at St Jude’s
- Wednesday 23rd September - Sacrament of Confirmation, St Jude’s Church, 6pm
Children in Year 6 celebrating this sacrament should receive two notes by the end of this week - the first informing them about the commitment and dates for Confirmation and the second outlining the children’s ministry commitment next term.
As with First Holy Communion, we will be organising Home Liturgy Groups for Confirmation - if there is any parent of a Confirmation candidate who would like to volunteer for this, could you please contact me at school before the end of this term.
