Literacy and Numeracy Week
Yesterday we opened our classrooms to visitors to see our ‘Go Maths Hour” from 9am-10am. We wanted to show case Maths at St Jude’s. This week is Literacy and Numeracy Week across Australia. From all accounts those adults who attended were very impressed with the work the children did.

New Classrooms - Stage 2 nearing completion
As soon as we have an exact handover date from our builders, we’ll organise another working bee to move 5 classes (Years 4, 5 and 6) from temporary classrooms into their new classrooms. At this working bee we will also need to relocate all our offices and library into temporary accommodation while stage 3 work begins. Watch this space!.
Touch
Congratulations to fourteen Years 3 and 4 boys who attended a Touch Gala day yesterday. St Jude’s fielded two teams and both were very successful. In total, twelve games were played by our two teams with ten wins, a loss and a draw. These are great results. What was particularly pleasing to observe was the positive interaction between the boys. Their sportsmanship was fantastic. Well done boys! You represented yourselves, your families and your school extremely well. I would like to thank the parents who assisted with transport and Tim Graney, David Robertson and Travis Murphy, who coached/managed our two teams.
Good Schools do Dynamic and Interesting Things
Lots of exciting things happen on a daily basis in an active primary school. Just this week we have had students involved in a sports day, all Year 6 students have been to Stromlo High for extended science lessons, both Year 2 classes heading into Civic to the Canberra Museum and Gallery, while on Friday our Year 1 classes are off to the National Museum of Australia. Learning happens inside the classroom as well as outside it. On your behalf I would like to thank the staff who spend a lot of time in arranging these activities for your children.
Celebration Mary MacKillop - Grandparents Day
Friday October 15th is the date we’ve set for this joint celebration. On the following day in Rome, Australia’s first saint will be canonized. This is a great thing for the Australian Catholic community. The Sisters of St Joseph have a revered place in Catholic education in this country and St Jude’s is looking forward to celebrating this great occasion. We thought this would prove to be a fitting day to invite grandparents along. I would imagine there will be many grandparents here who have first hand experience of the Sisters and the incredible job they did/do in often small and poor schools across Australia. Details about the day will follow.
Speech Choir
Our Years 2 and 4 students are busily practising for the end of term competition involving the reciting of a poem/story. This year the competition will be held at St Jude’s on Wednesday 22/9 from 10.00am.
